This year’s SILVER CITY FILM FESTIVAL will coincide with Silver City’s Weekend at the Galleries and feature over 40 films, short and feature length, from the following categories: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Junior Filmmakers with topics ranging from fiction, biography, and fantasy to the environment and sustainable living. 2008 Entries include local, regional, national and international films by a diverse group of filmmakers. The festival has also included a new category this year for Original Screenplay and will present the winning script(s) in a Staged Reading during the Festival.

SCFF 2008 will kick off on Friday night with it’s Opening Night Film at 8:00 p.m. at The Historic Silco Theatre, 311 N. Bullard Street, doors open at 7:30.  Presented will be the documentary DIEGO RIVERA: I PAINT WHAT I SEE by Corrales filmmaker Mary Lance. This film chronicles the life and work of famed Mexican artist Diego Rivera and was awarded a jury prize at the Biennial of Films on Art at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris as well as a Gold Plaque at the Chicago Int’l. Film Festival. Lance is an award-winning filmmaker with more than 25 years experience in documentary. Her biographical film AGNES MARTIN: WITH MY BACK TO THE WORLD, shown widely in both the US and abroad, will screen on Saturday, October 11 with a panel and Q and A with the director following.

SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS include a panel on New Mexican Women in Film on Saturday with Lance and filmmaker Erin Hudson, and a presentation on 3D Animation on Sunday with Nathan Guice.

The class is open to New Mexican residents working or planning to work on film productions.
Class is taught to OSHA standards and is endorsed by the IATSE Local 480.

Participation is limited to 35 students

Scenic Art Seminar

Learn to be a scenic artist for the film industry!

This will be an intensive, hands-on seminar (three four-hour sessions) taught by a scenic artist with 18 years in the business.

The New Mexico film industry needs trained artisans to work on projects filmed in the state. It is a great way to make money if you are:

  • Ready for 13-hour days of hard work
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Physically and mentally fit for hard labor and learn quickly
  • Have a tremendous work ethic
  • Possess the ability to take direction

The White Sands International Film Festival will be March 16-22 in Alamogordo, NM. For its fourth year, the White Sands International Film Festival (WSIFF) offers a uniquely diverse program of cinema, panels and workshops.

This year it features innovative films from American and Latino artists of distinction. It screens movies in several competitve categories, narrative and documentary, long and short.Master classes and panels such as the following are offered:- Swashbuckling for the Silver Screen- Writing for Film- High School Directing and Acting.
